Officials have suspect in Guntown apartment fire
GUNTOWN – Lee County officials have developed a possible suspect in connection with a fire that left five families homeless earlier this week.
Lt. Terry Jones, chief investigative and arson officer with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, said Thursday he expects charges of arson to be levied within the next few days.
Jones would not comment on a possible motive.
Three spots where separate fires were set were found in a utility-storage room behind the row of one- and two-bedroom apartments that burned early Tuesday. A single point of origin is usually found in fires involving natural causes.
The 6 a.m. fire was the third to occur at the complex since Sunday, and it was the second to occur that day. Many of the residents were at home at the time of the blaze, but no one was injured.
