HOUSTON – Students’ artwork at Houston Lower Elementary School is on display for public viewing during awards days May 18-20 and will also be for sale.
Margaret Futral, music teacher at HLES, came up with the idea to combine music and art into the award’s day program. She, along with the other special class teachers, have transformed the gym into an art museum.
“My goal is for the children to feel that their art is good enough for a museum and let other people enjoy their art. I also want them to become familiar with the greatest artists in the world,” said Futral.
Students will sing songs on stage about the artists they have chosen during the award’s day program.
The public is encouraged to visit the museum and buy the artwork on display. All proceeds will go towards funding a new program at HLES next year call Positive Behavior Support.
Award’s day schedule is as follows: May 18: K4, K4, and DD; May 19: first grade; and May 20: second grade. For more information about this event, please contact HLES at 662-456-3323.
