CORINTH – Corinth received a plaque Tuesday recognizing it as a Purple Heart City.

Cmdr. Louis Harris of the Corinth chapter Military Order of the Purple Heart presented the plaque. The Corinth board adopted a resolution several weeks ago to designate Corinth a Purple Heart City.

This week Corinth’s Chapter 813 also received approval from the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors to construct a Purple Heart monument on courthouse grounds.

Steve Eaton of Woodmen of the World presented the request, saying the Woodmen organization would pay the cost of the monument, while the chapter would raise additional funds through memorial brick sales to lay pavers around the base of the structure.

Specific details of the design and placement on courthouse grounds will be presented and approved by the county board at a later date.
