Purse auction to benefit Fairy Godmother Project

TUPELO – Mama’s got a brand new bag and a new charitable cause for 2011.
Organizers Rhonda Herring and Maggie Caldwell announced Tuesday that the fourth annual Mama’s Got a Brand New Bag purse auction will raise money for the Fairy Godmother Project.
“This is a project we can truly wrap our hearts around,” said motivational speaker Deborah Tierce during the kick off social at the Hilton Garden Inn in Tupelo.
The Fairy Godmother Project is a newly formed initiative from NEWMS – New Expectations for Women in Mississippi – and the CREATE Foundation. The project is designed very flexibly so it can address needs where its members see them.
Over the past three years, the purse auction of gently used donated designer handbags has given more than $30,000 to SAFE domestic violence shelter.
“SAFE is a wonderful organization,” Herring said, but the organizers wanted to support the new project that can help women and children in so many different situations who might otherwise fall through the cracks.
