OXFORD — Quarterback Barry Brunetti says he will transfer to Ole Miss, and plans to enroll in classes for the spring semester.
Brunetti, from Memphis, Tenn., played as a backup in two games last season at West Virginia as a freshman.
Brunetti said he plans to apply for a waiver that would allow him to play immediately, instead of sitting out a year per NCAA transfer rules. His mother was in a car accident several years ago, and he said her condition has worsened, so he wants to be closer to home.
If he’s eligible, the 6-foot, 207-pound sophomore will join a crowded Ole Miss quarterback competition. Returners Nathan Stanley and Randall Mackey, along with junior college transfer Zack Stoudt, are also in the running for the starting job.
