TUPELO – The Tupelo Tea Party will host a tribute to first responders on Saturday, the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The event, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Ballard Park stage, will be “an opportunity to honor our first responders such as firemen, policeman and the National Guard,” said Tea Party leader Grant Sowell, who describes the tribute as family-friendly and non-political.
“There will not be any candidates for office speaking and this event will not be a protest. This will be a celebration of freedom,” he said.
The program includes speeches, poetry, music and a dramatic performance. Several emergency vehicles will be on site, including a police helicopter, fire truck and a Humvee.
Free face-painting, snacks and balloons will be available for children.
“The theme will be ‘Never forget 9/11,’” said Sowell.
He urged those planning to bring lawn chairs or blankets. “Leave your signs, bring your children and your American flag,” he said.
