TUPELO – Natcehz Trace Parkway rangers are looking for a man they believe assaulted a bicyclist on the Natchez Trace March 17.
The assault happened near Friendship Hill Road north of Tupelo near mile marker 276 around 4 p.m.
The bicyclist was taken to the North Mississippi Medical Center with severe injuries and has since been released.
The suspect is described as a white man between between age 40 and 60 with short gray hair and a stocky build.
Rangers say the suspect was traveling south on the Parkway Sunday afternoon in the northeastern corner of Lee County, between Saltillo and Mantachie.
A $500 reward is being offered to anyone who has information leading to the arrest and conviction of the assault suspect.
Rangers are also looking for someone who was driving a dark colored four door sedan in the area on March 17. They believe this person may have information that could assist in the investigation.
“This is an isolated incident,” said Chief Ranger of the Natchez Trace Parkway Sarah Davis. “We still feel it’s safe for bicyclists to be on the parkway.”
