Red Green Market offers daylong shopping, entertainment in Corinth

CORINTH – Holiday shoppers will be able to get ahead of Black Friday madness at Saturday’s Red Green Market in Corinth.
The event – a holiday version of the Green Market – features sellers with handmade and home-grown products from a 100-mile radius of Corinth, and has become one of the most popular tourism and green-oriented events in Northeast Mississippi.
“It has gotten really popular, and people who have come shopping even call back to order something they’ve seen at the Green Market,” said Karen Beth Martin, program manager for the Corinth Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and Green Market organizer. “We completely fill up our lot now, and we’re happy about that. We’re excited that people who create things have an outlet to display and sell them.”
The special holiday market runs 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., expanded from the monthly Green Markets held April through October, and includes a full entertainment schedule throughout the day.
Featured guest David Leathers, Tupelo chef and food stylist noted for creative food sculptures, will present four programs at intervals during the day.
* 10 a.m.: David Leathers, carves pumpkins
* 11 a.m.: Kasey Rutherford and Rickey Parker, program of gospel and Christmas music
* Noon: David Leathers, “Play with Your Food” event for children
* 1 p.m.: Voices of Dixie
* 2 p.m.: David Leathers, fruit and vegetable carving
* 3 p.m.: Joel and Seth Smith, guitar rockers
* 4 p.m.: David Leathers, “Effortless Entertaining”
“We really tried to make this Red Green Market an event, not just a market,” Martin said. “Having David Leathers doing demonstrations is really something special.”
Many new vendors bring their offerings each month along with others who come regularly. The market attracted 52 vendors in October, the highest number so far, and with 34 vendors registered as of Friday, Martin expects this week’s event may match that.
Additionally, the CVB will have its Green Market organic, biodegradable shopping bags, Green Market coffee blend, short-sleeve T-shirts and a limited number of collectible Red Green Market T-shirts with special art.
“The artwork is just adorable, and we also have a limited number of postcards with the artwork, because postcards use less paper and are more environmentally sensitive,” Martin said.
Santa will be on site all day for bring-your-own-camera photos, and many of the vendor items will help shoppers decorate and make gift purchases: live Christmas trees and wreaths, Christmas ornaments, sweet treats, handcrafted jewelry, goat milk products, pet ornaments, dog treats, aprons, hand-painted doll houses and much more.
“There will be food vendors and we’ll have hot cider, kettle corn and coffee for our shoppers,” Martin said. “We just have a lot of fun with it, and we definitely have new shoppers every month. It’s always better to buy directly from the artisan than through a store because you’re directly supporting them.”
