FULTON – Shannon outscored Tishomingo County 15-7 in overtime to pick up the 75-67 win and advance to Thursday’s Region 1-4A boys’ semifinals at Itawamba Community College.
Trailing 59-58 with three seconds left, Tishomingo threw the ball to midcourt where Shannon appeared to pick off the pass and seal the victory. Instead, a foul was called on the Red Raiders as the ball and players crashed into press row allowing Tishomingo County’s Luke White to hit one of two free throws to send the game into overtime.
Javon Green led Shannon with 23 and Jemar Clifton added 22 points for Shannon. Jake Walker paced Tish County with 15 and Tanner Pounders had 14.
Shannon will play No. 2 seed Pontotoc at 5:30.
– (G) Tishomingo County 62 North Pontotoc 49: Deidra McCoy led Tishomingo County with 18 points as the Lady Braves defeated North Pontotoc 62-49 in the opening game of the day. Andrea Lewis paced the Lady Vikings with a game-high 26 points.
Tishomingo County will face No. 1 seed New Albany on Thursday at 4 p.m.
– (G) Itawamba AHS 56 Shannon 34: Laken McKnatt scored a game-high 17 points and the Lady Indians’ defense held Shannon to one point in the first quarter and four points in the fourth in their 22-point victory.
Ally McDonald added 15 points for IAHS and Maya Smith paced Shannon with 11.
IAHS will play No. 2 seed Pontotoc Thursday at 7 p.m.
– (B) North Pontotoc 75 Itawamba AHS 62: Marcus Green and Mitch Doom each scored 19 points for the North Pontotoc Vikings. Jimmy Ruff paced Itawamba with 14 and Maikhail Miller added 13.
North Pontotoc will play No. 1 seed New Albany Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
