REDLANDS FESTIVAL

FULTON – Residents in Itawamba County are gearing up for the annual Redlands Festival that begins today at 7 p.m. with a street dance on the courthouse Square in Fulton.

The fun continues at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with a Redlands run that begin on the Itawamba Community College Campus.

There will be a car show, arts and crafts and a Rim Fire Shoot on the Courthouse Square on Saturday. Entertainment will be provided all day long.

Percy Sledge will highlight the festival with a 7 p.m. concert Saturday at the ICC Fine Arts Center sponsored by the Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department. Proceeds from the $20 tickets will be used to purchase equipment not included in the department’s budget, said Sheriff Leon Hayes.

Kathy Ivy of Red Bay and the Muscle Shoals Pickers will open for Sledge.

Sledge is a 56-year-old native of Leighton, Ala. He has written and performed such songs as “When a Man Loves A Woman,” which hit the top of the pop and R&B charts in 1966 and was remade by Michael Bolton in 1992.
