TUPELO – Northeast Mississippians could see white when they wake up Sunday morning.
On Friday, the National Weather Service in Memphis reported a 100 percent chance of snow and sleet tonight following the return of cold weather today.
Meteorologist Marlene Mickelson said on Friday the fluctuations from warm to cold that Northeast Mississippians have seen lately are normal for this time of year – everything except the snow.
“It is a little bit abnormal to have snow falling in late February, especially in Tupelo,” she said. “The area can expect less than an inch of accumulation. But things should be back to normal Sunday morning – cold, but normal.”
The high for Sunday is expected to be 45 degrees and will drop to a bone-chilling 27 degrees by nightfall, according to Mickelson. Strong winds are also expected to come blowing through Sunday afternoon.
Despite the cold weekend, people can once again put their coats back in the closets because Monday and Tuesday are expected to be sunny and back in the 60-degree range.
“This is just typical February and March weather,” said Mickelson. “The cold will come and go, so I wouldn’t get to used to it.”
