Region marks new heat record for June 29

The Tupelo area on Friday set a new heat record, according to National Weather Service meteorologist John Moore III. The area hit 106 degrees, breaking the old record of 104 set in 1931. The forecast today shows Tupelo will hit 105 degrees. The current heat record for June 30 stands at 102, which was hit in 1954.
