Report of robbery leads to chase, fatal accident in Iuka

IUKA – One person was killed and another injured Tuesday after a vehicle involved in a police chase crashed on U.S. Highway 72.

According to initial reports, the chase began in Corinth after police received reports of a mid-afternoon robbery at SouthBank on Harper Road.

Police saw a man leave the bank and get into a vehicle, which tried unsuccessfully to run down the officers.

The vehicle headed east on U.S. 72 with officers chasing it. The chase ended in Iuka just east of the Highway 25 exit when the vehicle crashed in the median and flipped.

A man and woman were ejected.

One person was taken by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, and the Tishomingo County coroner was at the scene

Authorities would not release any other information, including names, pending notification of relatives.

Corinth police investigated the robbery and notified the FBI.
