IUKA – Tishomingo County will offer the public a chance to review new flood plain maps before any changes are finalized in about six months.
A flood risk open house is scheduled for 4:30 to 6 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Crow’s Neck Environmental Education Center near Tishomingo.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality will present the maps, which determine a property owner’s flood risk for the National Flood Insurance Program.
State and local officials will be on hand to answer property owners’ questions throughout the come-and-go event.
By September 2010, Mississippi expects to have flood plain maps finalized for all 82 counties, completing its part of a national project that has been under way since 2003.
