RESTAURANT IN ECRU DESTROYED BY FIRE

ECRU – A family-owned restaurant in north Pontotoc County was destroyed early Tuesday by fire.

The fire was reported about 3 a.m. at Ecru Fish and Steak House on Main Street in Ecru.

The restaurant was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived and the roof had caved in, said Ecru firefighter Terry Raby.

Volunteers from departments in Ecru, Pontotoc and Harrison worked for more than an hour to get the blaze under control and to keep flames from spreading to adjacent buildings.

A cause for the fire had not been determined Tuesday night.

District 3 state Sen. Nickey Browning, owner of the restaurant, went to Ecru Tuesday to survey the damage. He had returned to Jackson later Tuesday night.
