Revolutionary War marker to be dedicated in Iuka

IUKA — A historic marker to honor William Gray, a patriot of the Revolutionary War, will be unveiled and dedicated Saturday at the Tishomingo County Courthouse in Iuka.

Gray, a native of South Carolina, enlisted in the American Revolution at Laurens County, S.C., in 1778, and fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain. After the war he settled in north central Tishomingo County. He died in 1848 and was buried in Old Gray Town Cemetery.

The William Gray Chapter, Mississippi Society Sons of the American Revolution is sponsoring the marker.
