– Looking back: Ole Miss split two games, dropping a 79-73 decision at South Carolina on Tuesday, a second-straight road loss that raised questions of motivation and focus. The Rebels responded with energy, defense and timely shooting in a 68-63 win over Alabama, which had already clinched the SEC West No. 1 seed.
– Looking ahead: The Rebels play at Auburn on Wednesday night and close the regular season at home against Arkansas on Saturday at 3.
n Who’s hot: Senior guard Chris Warren had a career-high 33 points at South Carolina, tying the school record with eight 3-pointers. He had 25 points, five assists against Alabama.
n Who’s not: Junior guard Trevor Gaskins did not score and managed just one rebound, two fouls and two turnovers in 13 minutes against Alabama.
– RPI watch: Ole Miss begins the week with an RPI rating of 73.
– Bottom line: The Rebels could have mailed it in against the Crimson Tide . Instead, Ole Miss answered Alabama’s defense with intensity of its own, underscoring the wild swings in consistency head coach Andy Kennedy has pointed out.
The Rebels are still playing for seeding, but it’s NIT seeding.
