RIENZI – Rienzi residents are hoping Mother Nature will cooperate this weekend for their fourth annual Springfest.

The event will be held in downtown Rienzi all day Saturday. Rienzi is located on Highway 365, two miles east of U.S. Highway 45.

Springfest is sponsored by the Rienzi Lions Club and the Rienzi Merchants’ Association. “We invite everyone to come and spend the day in Rienzi and have a good time,” said Carolyn Bishop, one of the event’s organizers.

Activities will begin at 6 a.m. with a pancake breakfast set up beside Bishop’s Grocery & Cafe. Breakfast will be served until 9 a.m. The $3 plate will include pancakes, bacon or sausage and coffee or hot chocolate.

Concession stands will be available throughout the day, serving hotdogs, hamburgers, beverages and other snacks.

Everyone is invited to participate in the open air flea market. There is no charge to set up booths, but electricity will not be provided. Tables will have to be provided by the dealers.

There will be plenty of entertainment, including free horse-and-buggy rides. There will be a 4-by-4 and antique car display. Proud owners are invited to show off their wheels. The Biggersville High School basketball team, the state 1-A champs, also will make an appearance.

Rienzi Elementary School PTC will be sponsoring a picture project, offering a 10-by-13 inch picture for $5. Anyone wishing to have a portrait made can purchase advance tickets from any student. Call 462-5214 for more information.

A free health fair will be set up, offering cholesterol and blood pressure checks and vision and glaucoma checks.

Rienzi’s Dog Trade Day, which is held every Saturday except the first Saturday of each month, will be held as usual.

The Lion’s Club will host a bake sale. The club will also sponsor a spaghetti dinner from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the elementary school cafeteria. Carry out or delivery is available by calling 462-7212 or 462-5214.
