AMORY One of Northeast Mississippi’s premiere golf courses, River Birch Golf Club in Amory, is announcing a special membership offer starting this month.

The club, recently purchased by the community of Amory from the Glenn family, is offering memberships for $500. This is a one-time offer and is limited to the first 100 people.

“River Birch is offering a great opportunity for people to become members of a great golf course at an affordable price,” River Birch director of golf Andy Franks said. “I would like everyone who is interested to visit with me on the new membership drive.”

River Birch, the only new premiere course in the area featuring bermuda grass greens, is located on 184 acres close by the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway on Highway 278. The back nine holes of River Birch opened in 1993 and the front nine holes opened in 1994.

The course plays 7,246 yards from the black/championship tees, and 6,771 yards from the men’s/gold tees. The course is a par-72 layout that includes six different bodies of water.

River Birch has already hosted one major Mississippi golf event, the Mississippi Golf Association Mid-Amateur late last summer.

With the course being under new ownership, Franks, the former two-time national long driving champion, would like to stress that there will be no increase in fees and that the public is still welcome. River Birch is now open seven days a week.

“The community is very excited having purchased the course, and the Glenns are very excited about the community having the course,” Franks said. “We’re looking forward to a busy summer, and gaining lots of members throughout the summer.”

The purchase of River Birch did not include the real estate development originally associated with the club.
