TUPELO — A special election Tuesday in Tupelo will decide the fate of the proposed Major Thoroughfare Program.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. in the city.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports voters will decide whether to renew the 20-year-old road-improvement program another five years or to end it.
Officials say the property tax levy will bring in about $4 million a year.
Tuesday’s election is the fifth in the Major Thoroughfare Program’s 20-year history. The first one launched the program; all subsequent ones continued it for an additional five years. It has passed each time.
The city plans to widen some streets and add turn lanes elsewhere among other things.
