Sales tax collections rise in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (AP) — Sales tax collections rose 2 percent during the fiscal year that ended June 30 in Philadelphia.

The Neshoba Democrat reports the city took in more than $3.8 million during the period from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013.

The total was an increase of more than $72,000 from the previous year.

Tourism taxes also rose during the year, up almost 2.5 percent from the previous year.

Sales tax collections make up more than half of the city’s annual revenue.
