STARKVILLE — Longtime political columnist Sid Salter has been named journalist-in-residence at Mississippi State University effective March 1.

Salter, the Perspective page editor at The Clarion-Ledger, is a graduate of Mississippi State. He also was publisher and editor of the Scott County Times in Forest before joining the Jackson newspaper.

Mississippi State president Mark Keenum says Salter’s work will include developing a speaker series and other initiatives to help MSU students to interact with leading U.S. journalists.

Salter also will teach communication and political science classes.

The Philadelphia native is a member of the Hall of Fame of the Mississippi Press Association.
