Saltillo doctors to get clinic upgrade

SALTILLO – After decades downtown, Saltillo Medical Clinic will move into a spacious new building closer to the highway.
The Lee County Board of Supervisors on Monday unanimously approved the sale of 2.6 acres inside its Turner Industrial Park to North Mississippi Medical Clinics.
NMMC will pay $150,000 for the property, located adjacent to Dixon’s Travel Center.
County Administrator Sean Thompson provided few details about the transaction, but Saltillo clinic Office Manager Shelley Glenn confirmed that the space will house a new clinic to replace the aging one on Mobile Street.
“We are so excited,” said Glenn. “It will be more visible, closer to the hub of activity in the city, and it will be a three-physician clinic. Right now we have just one, Dr. (Richmond) McCarty.”
A NMMC spokeswoman also confirmed the deal and said the expansion was needed because of the tremendous growth in the area.
The clinic recently lost longtime physician Dr. Rud Robison, who retired this year after more than 55 years of service.
Glenn said the organization will recruit two doctors to help staff the new facility, which could open sometime in the fall of 2011.
“We’re still in the planning stages now,” she said.
The clinic offers acupuncture, EKGs, lab work, minor procedures, pulmonary treatments, pap smears and X-rays, according to its website.
