Saltillo man charged for failing to register as sex offender

TUPELO – A Saltillo man was charged Thursday for failing to register as a sex offender when he moved from Pontotoc.

Mancell Lee Wages, 47, of Saltillo, had his bond set at $25,000 in the Lee County Justice Court Friday afternoon on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender.

Wages is currently on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. They have placed a hold on Wages, meaning he may have to remain in jail after paying his bond in Lee County to account for any charges they have.

Wages was under probation after he was paroled in 2009 on aggravated sexual contact charges. He was charged in New Jersey in 1999 and was transferred to MDOC custody.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said Wages was last registered in Pontotoc but allegedly moved to a residence on Mobile Street in Saltillo.

Johnson also alleged Wages set up a Facebook profile which would be a violation of his court ordered terms of probation.
