OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — A 65-year-old Saltillo man has pleaded guilty to federal charges of misuse of public money.

WTVA-TV in Tupelo reports that Paul Griffith entered the guilty plea in U. S. District Court in Oxford last week.

Prosecutors say Griffith was accused of lying to the Social Security Administration about his step-daughter living with him half the time and providing at least 50 percent of the cost of her care.

The statements were made on an application for Social Security Title II Child’s Insurance Benefits payments.

Authorities say Griffith received $29,348.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
