Saltillo parade still on for Tuesday

SALTILLO – Many area bands are unable to participate in Tomorrow’s Saltillo Christmas Parade but City Clerk Mary Parker said the show must go on.
“We are disappointed that local bands will be unable t participate because of state testing but because we did not find out until such a late date, we feel we cannot cancel or change the date (of the parade) at this time,” Parker said.
The parade will feature Itawamba Community College’s and Caterpillar, Inc’s floats that won awards in Tupelo’s Reed’s Christmas Parade.
Parker said one change this year is that float riders will be dropped off after the parade.
“We’re asking anyone who has children on a float or car that they do not unload when they make that left but continue north on Front Street until Walnut Street behind Food Giant,” Parker said. “The main reason is, our officers are concerned because it caused some safety issues last year.”
Anyone interested can still sign up to be in the parade by calling 869-5431 ext. 1 or 3.
The parade will start at First Baptist Church of Saltillo at Mobile Street and Bostic Avenue at 7 p.m. and go through Downtown Saltillo to Front Street.
