SALTILLO – Saltillo Primary School received a “C” on a health inspection from the Mississippi Health Department on Wednesday after the hot water in its cafeteria was not working, Superintendent Jimmy Weeks said.
Weeks said the school’s maintenance department has since fixed a wire at the breaker that had come loose and that the hot water is now working again. The district expects the health department to return this week for a follow-up visit.
“We did everything we had to do to make sure we were taking care of the health department guidelines,” Weeks said. “When we didn’t have the hot water working at the tap, we used hand sanitizer in the kitchen and used throw-away trays and plastic forks. It was not a situation where we had any dishes washed in water that wasn’t hot. We followed their guidelines.”
The state Department of Health regularly inspects restaurants and food facilities.
The facilities are graded from A to C. “A” is the best. “C” is the equivalent of failing, but the inspection isn’t bad enough to merit the closure of the facility.
