Santorum and Romney could come to Tupelo; Gingrich changes schedule

By Emily Le Coz

TUPELO – Republican presidential hopefuls Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney are considering stops in Tupelo as they campaign through Mississippi this week.

Fellow GOP candidate Newt Gingrich already confirmed an appearance here Thursday, but has changed the time and location. It now will be from 3:30-5 p.m. at the Tupelo Furniture Market, building 5.

Santorum also might hold his rally at the Furniture Market, said Tupelo Tea Party spokesman Grant Sowell. If so, it’d likely happen Wednesday afternoon.

“They’re looking at Southaven and Tupelo,” said Terry Hutcheston, the Santorum campaign’s Mississippi grassroots coordinator.

She said she’ll have a definitive answer later today.

Romney could reveal his plans later today, as well, said Tupelo Republican John Oxford, who said he should know more after a 4:30 p.m. conference call with the campaign.

The three candidates, along with Ron Paul, are vying for the GOP presidential nomination in Mississippi’s March 13 primary election.
