GLEN – It looked like school was in session on Thursday afternoon at Alcorn Central schools, with kids eating lunch in the cafeteria and playing basketball in the gym.
But these kids were waiting for their chance at music video stardom.
They’re starring in the music video for Saving Abel’s new single, “Bringing Down the Giant.” The rock band, which hails from Corinth, shot the video at Alcorn Central schools all day on Thursday. The shoot included a big scene at the football field, where Saving Abel invited fans from across north Mississippi to be in the video.
“It’s been in the back of our heads to come back to our hometown to say thanks,” said Saving Abel lead guitarist Jason Null. “Without Corinth, Mississippi, there wouldn’t be a Saving Abel.”
Null thanked the city and Alcorn Central Superintendent Gina Rogers Smith for helping make the shoot a reality.
“Bringing Down the Giant” has the Biblical theme of the underdog defeating the giants. Null, who himself was bullied as a kid, and the band decided to give the video an anti-bullying message. Null’s son and other young family members are starring in the video, and the cast includes the bullies and classmates.
“Some of the (bullying scenarios) are lighthearted, some things will be serious,” Null said. “The idea is to say, in small communities, football rivalries and petty things like that don’t matter. We need to put a stop to bullying in our communities,” Null said. “We’re starting it here and hoping the world and the nation follows suit.”
Saving Abel will release its new album, also called “Bringing Down the Giant,” on July 17 on its new label, eOne Music. Fans can expect a diverse sound from the rock group.
“There’s a Christian song on there, there’s a country song, a tear-jerking ballad, a move-your-body song,” Null said. “We’re over the moon. This is our best record.”
The “Bringing Down the Giant” video should be released in a few weeks; look for it at savingabel.com.
