Scammers are posing as Tupelo Water and Light bill collectors to try and take money from Tupelo residents.

Tupelo Police Lt. Jerry Davis said he has gotten reports of people receiving calls threatening if they don’t pay a certain sum of money immediately, their electricity will be turned off.

“If you get a call from someone saying they’ll turn off your power if you don’t pay, they’re scamming you,” Davis said.

Davis said anyone who is unsure if they owe a balance can call the Tupelo Water and Light office.
