HOLLY SPRINGS – Holly Springs Primary School came in fifth place in Mississippi’s Walk to School Day contest, the Mississippi Department of Education announced on Tuesday.
During Walk to School Month in October, the school had 23.8 percent of its students participate in an event in which they walked to the school’s campus. Lake Elementary in Pascagoula placed first in the contest with 83.6 percent of its students participating.
During the month, more than 50,000 Mississippi students participated in 130 walk-to-school events. Mississippi had the eighth-most events of any state in the nation, said Cookie Leffler, Mississippi Department of Transportation Coordinator for the Safe Routes to School Program.
