SEARCH CONTINUES FOR PAIR WHO ROBBED BANK

OXFORD – Law enforcement officials in Lafayette County continued their search Tuesday for two men who held up a bank in Oxford.

“We are steadily running down every lead,” said Maj. G.A. Liles of the Oxford Police Department. No arrests had been made late Tuesday.

About 11:30 a.m. Monday two masked men walked into the Union Planters Bank branch at 1000 W. Jackson Ave. in Oxford and demanded money, said bank president Tom Carroll.

One of the men displayed a small, nickel-and-chrome-plated handgun, Liles said.

After loading the cash into a cloth bag, the two men left the bank heading south. The amount of money taken was not disclosed.

Four employees were in the branch at the time of the robbery; no customers were there.

Law enforcement officials combed the area looking for the suspects, described only as black males wearing blue jeans, one of whom was about 6 feet tall.

Anyone with information on the robbery is urged to call the Oxford Police Department’s Crime Stoppers number at 234- 8477 or the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department at 234-6421.
