TUPELO – Authorities were still searching Wednesday for a suspect who abandoned a maroon Chevy pickup in Tishomingo County Saturday afternoon, leaving behind more than 100 pounds of marijuana.
Leads have been uncovered that are helping with the investigation, said Natchez Trace Parkway Chief Ranger Mike Foster. However, no suspect has been specifically identified as yet.
On Saturday, two rangers who observed a pickup speeding on the Natchez Trace attempted to pull the driver over at mile marker 307 in Tishomingo County near the Mississippi-Alabama state line.
The driver exited the Parkway at Mississippi Highway 30 and ran from the truck into the woods.
The North Mississippi Drug Task Force will be the charging agency once a suspect is identified, Foster said.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Parkway ranger office at (662) 680-4002.
