The recovery effort for the body of 15-year old Taylor Smith of Smithville who disappeared while swimming with friends Friday continues today.
The body had not been recovered, according to a Monroe County Sheriff Department official. Officials have used sonar technology to scan the Buttahatchie River, WTVA.com reports. The report adds officials say they’re almost certain of the location of the boys body, who was taken under by the current during the swimming trip.
Smith was allegedly swimming in a branch of the Buttahatchee River with friends near the Cockerham Bridge on Bartahatchie Road in South Monroe County when his friends reported he started floating down the river, went under water and did not return to the surface.
The Monroe County Sheriff Department has been assisted by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Hatley and Columbus dive team in the search.
