Last month, Tupelo joined a select group of cities nationwide when it brought home its fourth All-America City Award given by the National Civic League.
A 35-member city delegation went to Kansas City, Mo., where with two dozen other finalists it competed for 10 of the coveted awards. The story of Tupelo’s three projects – Fairpark, the Traceway Green Houses and the mayor’s citizen task forces – convinced the judges that the city is still exceptional in its collaborative response to community challenges.
The 2011 All-America City Award follows similar designations in 1967, 1989 and 1999.
Inside today’s Daily Journal is a special section commemorating this latest award and the projects that won it, as well as recalling those earlier designations that, taken together, give Tupelo a lasting claim to All-America City status.
