Sen. Jack Gordon to undergo brain surgery at UMMC

JACKSON — Colleagues say longtime state Sen. Jack Gordon of Okolona is scheduled for brain surgery Friday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Gordon is a 65-year-old Democrat. He was hospitalized several days in March after suffering seizures.

Sen. Terry Burton of Newton says Gordon had CAT scan Thursday, and surgeons will know Friday whether a tumor on the right frontal lobe of Gordon’s brain can be removed.

Gordon served in the House 1972-80 before moving to the Senate. He was defeated in 1991 and re-elected in 1995.

Gordon chaired the Senate Appropriations Committee 1988-92 and 2000-08, and is still on the Joint Legislative Budget Committee.

Burton says Gordon is in good spirits and is asking for prayers.
