Sentencing set in false tax return case

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — A tax return preparer charged with filing numerous false returns is scheduled for sentencing on June 27 in federal court in Oxford.

Thelbert Lamont Lesure was indicted in January 2011 and charged with 21 counts related to the filing for false returns for multiple people. He pleaded guilty in February of this year to one count of the indictment, charging him with knowingly preparing and transmitting a fraudulent tax return to the IRS.

Lesure was released on a bond pending sentencing. He faces a maximum possible penalty of five years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.
