Service charge arrives for Internet 911 calls in Monroe County

ABERDEEN – The Monroe County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution that places a $1 service charge on all 911 calls made from Internet phone or VOIP services.
“This will be the same type situation as when someone makes a 911 call from their cell phone,” Monroe County Emergency Management/911 Director Bunky Goza said.
Goza said the request comes from Mississippi Senate Bill 2938, which is also known as the Emergency 911 law, which includes fees for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and prepaid cell phones.
