ABERDEEN – A Columbus man convicted of a sex crime and listed on the state sex offender registry was arrested Wednesday and accused of illegally going onto school property.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Greg Sims, 37. He is charged with sex offender going on school property.

The arrest was the result of law enforcement receiving information that Sims attended a football game at a Monroe County school. Bond has not been set, and Sims is held at Monroe County Detention Center.

Mississippi Sex Offender Registry shows Sims was convicted in 1997 of fondling.

A common requirement in supervised release programs for sex offenders is to ban them from going on school property.
