SHANNON – Shannon Primary School recently held a ceremony to dedicate a new walking track that was constructed next to the school from a grant from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation.
The track, which will be used by students and faculty at the school, was conceived by the School’s Health Council. It was made possible when Kristy Jones, the mother of Shannon Primary student Haley Jones, applied for and received the grant.
“I applaud the efforts of Shannon Primary School to focus on the health and wellness of their students, faculty and administration,” said Sheila Grogan, executive director of Blue Cross amp& Blue Shield of Mississippi.
Students voted to call the track “Little Raider Road,” and it has been used in the school’s gym class. Shannon Primary faculty member Joanna Williams also said she walks the track every day at lunch.
