TUPELO – Tupelo Superintendent Randy Shaver said he misspoke when he said Wednesday that Assistant Superintendent Fred Hill and Milam Elementary Principal Travis Beard visited the home of a Milam student who was kicked in the head by another student.
The two administrators did not visit the student’s home, but the victim’s father said that he did meet with Beard at the school.
“It is my comments that were inaccurate, but I assure you that it was not intention,” Shaver wrote Friday night on NEMS360.com. “I was informed that they ‘visited with the student’s parents’ and mistakenly thought they had gone to the home. This mistake is mine and mine alone. I should not have assumed that meant a home visit.”
