Shelby MP's wife accused in shooting

HATTIESBURG — The wife of a Camp Shelby soldier has been charged with shooting him.

Forrest County Sheriff Billy McGee says 30-year-old Tiffany Wright was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated assault.

McGee says the shooting appeared to stem from a domestic issue.

McGee says Wright is accused of shooting her husband, a military police officer, around midnight Friday near Camp Shelby’s North Gate. She is being held Tuesday in the Forrest County Jail pending an initial court appearance.

The soldier was wearing a ballistic vest and was not seriously injured.

Camp Shelby spokeswoman Maj. Deidre Musgrave says the MP was discharged from Forrest General Hospital Saturday morning. She declined to release the victim’s name.

The MP was shot in the chest, but caused only minor injuries thanks to his vest.
