Sheriff: Smoke from grass fires led to wrecks

MOSS POINT — Authorities say an Alabama man faces arson charges after being accused of setting two fires near Interstate 10 in Moss Point, causing a four-vehicle crash with numerous injuries.

Sheriff Mike Byrd says 29-year-old Brandon Best of Phenix City, Ala., was arrested Sunday after he allegedly set fire to the grass on the side of the road. Byrd says the smoke from the fires caused the car accident. Byrd says there were numerous injuries, including a baby who was in critical condition.

The conditions of the other victims were not immediately known. An employee at the sheriff’s office Sunday said he didn’t have any more details about the incident.
