In what has been a busy two weeks for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, two drug busts and several traffic stops have yielded more than ten arrests on cocaine-related charges.
An April 20 raid on a home in the Egypt community led to the arrest of Yameika Clarett Gilleylen, 25, 20629 Old Houston Road, Aberdeen; Jessie Deshaun Pargo, 26, 412 Evergreen Drive, Aberdeen and Lemuel L. Vasser, 42, 20457 Whiterock Road , Aberdeen.
amp”The Monroe County S.W.A.T. team and agents with North Mississippi Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at 20361 Old Houston Road on Monday April 20,amp” Monroe County Sheriff Andy Hood said. amp”Deputies and agents found an assortment of narcotics and arrested two individuals. Gilleylen fled the house and led deputies on a brief pursuit. She was stopped on Old Houston road and was found to be in possession of two ounces of powder cocaine. Arrested at the house was Pargo. He was found to be in possession of powder cocaine, crack cocaine, ecstasy and a small amount of marijuana that was packaged for sale. On the same night, we also arrested Vassar at a safety checkpoint on Egypt Road for a warrant on sale of a controlled substance. Vasser is believed to be a part of the same group from Old Houston Road that conspired to sale and transfer narcotics.amp”
Gilleylen was charged with possession of a controlled substance (powder cocaine) more than 30 grams, which, according to Hood, carries a 10 year minimum sentence, with the maximum sentence being 30 years with a $1million fine. Bond was set at $100,000 (cash) by Justice Court Judge Robert Fowlkes.
Pargo was charged with possession of a controlled substance (powder cocaine), possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine) and possession of a controlled substance (ecstasy). His bond was set at $200,000 (cash) by Fowlkes.
Vasar was charged with sale of a controlled substance. Fowlkes set his bond at $100,000.
The round-up continued Thursday night and over the weekend as six more individuals were arrested and another was charged with additional charges while being held for a recent arrest.
amp”This is the result of months of work, amp” Hood said. amp”People think drug busts can just happen over night, but that’s not true. It takes months of planning to actually make the arrests. This should really put a dent in the sale of cocaine in Amory and North Monroe County. The weekend arrests were the results of a joint effort between the sheriff’s department, Chief Ronnie Bowen and the Amory Police Department, the Monroe County S.W.A.T team and North Mississippi Narcotics.amp”
Jerry Daniels, who was recently arrested on several charges, was charged with three counts sale of cocaine. His bond was revoked stemming from previous charges
amp”Daniels was previously arrested on March 23, 2009 and charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of a weapon by a felon, one count of sale of cocaine, and was being held by MDOC on violation of his parole, amp” Hood said.amp” amp”On April 24, Daniels was charged with three more counts of sale of cocaine as a result of this ongoing investigation. Daniels was never released from the Monroe County Detention Center, since his March arrest. These latest charges were done prior to the March arrest.amp”
