Shots fired at Mantachie police station

(PHOTO: Three .22 caliber bullets pierced the front window of Mantachie’s police station early Sunday morning. According to Police Chief Terry Jones, the shots were fired from between 3:30 a.m and 4:15 a.m., when the culprit knew there would be no officers in the building. The bullet holes, two of which entered the glass of the front window, with the third entering into the window’s metal frame, were not discovered until Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when the evening shift came to work. One suspect is currently in custody in connection with the shooting, and another is expected to be charged. No motive for the shooting is known at this time. The Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation. -photo by Adam Armour)
