Skeletal remains found in rural Oktibbeha County

STARKVILLE – An adult’s skeletal remains have been found in Oktibbeha County.

The sheriff’s office says authorities were tipped about a death in the area and the remains were found Tuesday about a quarter-mile from Reed Road in the sparsely populated Adaton community.

Sheriff’s Cmdr. Brett Watson told The Dispatch Wednesday the remains appeared to have been there for “several years.” Deputies aren’t sure whether the remains were that of a man or woman, but clothing recovered from the scene helped determine a likely age range.

Watson says investigators will check with surrounding counties to see if there are any missing persons reports that fit the description.

The remains also will be sent to a crime lab to determine if DNA testing can be done to help identify the person.
