LONG BEACH, Miss. (AP) — Human skeletal remains were found Saturday in a wooded area of Long Beach by people collecting firewood, officials said.
The Sun Herald reported (http://bit.ly/rDixPm ) the remains were found about 5:30 p.m.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said he does not know if the remains are of a man or a woman, but said they may have been there for at least a year.
The area where the bones were found, which Hargrove declined to identify, was secured for the night. He and state pathologist Paul McGarry, along with police, will scour the area on Sunday, he said.
The cause of death is under investigation.
