OXFORD – Tara Sloan’s claim that she was fired for retaliation over a gender bias complaint was denied Monday by a federal judge.
Sloan sued the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department in December 2010, asserting she was not promoted t0 road deputy because she was a woman and then was fired for reporting the alleged discrimination.
Monday, Senior Judge Neal B. Biggers Jr. ruled Sloan was not forthcoming about her work history, which posed a legitimate reason for her termination.
But he also said her claim of gender bias can proceed to trial April 16.
In her lawsuit, Sloan claimed she was told that women couldn’t be hired to be transport officers for safety concerns and two males were promoted over her.
