JACKSON – Lucien Smith, a former budget adviser to Gov. Haley Barbour, will announce his candidacy for state treasurer Tuesday.
Smith, a 30-year-old from Jackson, is the third Republican candidate to announce for the office. Also running are Lynn Fitch and state Sen. Lee Yancey.
They hope to succeed incumbent Tate Reeves, who is running for lieutenant governor.
No Democrats have yet to announce.
In addition to serving as budget adviser and legal counsel to Barbour, Smith is a certified public funds investment manager.
