Smithville receives grant for sewer upgrades

SMITHVILLE – The town of Smithville has been awarded a Community Development Block Grant for Small Government Public Facilities through the Mississippi Development Authority for $449,674.
According to Smithville Mayor Gregg Kennedy, the money will be used for construction of a main sewer line.
The town originally applied for some of the federal stimulus funding, but did not get it. So they reapplied for the CDBG money and got it. The grant does not require a matching amount from the town’s coffers.
Kennedy said the new sewer line will run from the town’s existing lift station to the sewage lagoon.
